Brianna Patterson
Hi my name is Brianna Patterson Ive been homeless since august of 2012. I left my mom house when I was 18 because we never got along and I felt like she treated me different from my brother and sister. I moved with a friend fora few months until there was a conflict and I moved to my dads. While living at my dads he moved in a young lady to roommate ( She was about my age) We started hanging out and we became close friends, we became so close that we started liking each other. We dated but once we made thing official we told our parents and from then on he didn’t approve. He didn’t treat me like his daughter but more like a stranger. He barely spoke to me he kicked the young girl out of his house and told me he didn’t want me to be with her. THen he eventually kicked me out, I have been homeless since august 4th 2012, I have been homeless, from sleeping in hotels, hospitals, parks etc. It's been really hard.
What is one important lesson learned while transitioning into adulthood?
One thing that I learned is no matter what you think your parent are always right. Your parents want the best for you. Another thing is believe in yourself. You can do whatever you set your mind to. Also last but not least is always have your own back because people that you meet later in life don't always have your best interest at heart as you will.
What are your goals for your adulthood?
My goal right now is to find a job followed by a transitional living program to where I can save money and find my own apartment. Once that done I want to either go to school for cosmetology or to become a social worker. Also from there I want to get a career from either or and start my family and maybe move to another state. But at the moment Im blessed to be here at covenant house.
